Description

My first Asian Cup took place in a big complex built espacially for triathlon in the middle of a beautiful natural setting. It was a great first experience both on the sporting and human side.

Feedback

The swimming took place with neoprene suit because the water temperature was cold. We started on a pontoon with two 750m laps to complete. I had a good start and managed to be in the lead pack in the first lap After leaving the water, to start the second lap I dove to the back of the first group and then gradually a gap formed. I came out of the water in 12th position in 00:19:45.

On the bike, a small group of 5-6 girls formed and we were 20 seconds behind the first group. Pedaling in the lead, we quickly closed the gap and caught the first pack on the second lap, after 10km. A big pack formed and I took the lead. I felt very powerful on the bike and I put in the effort for most of the remaining 30km at the front of the group with the help of some of my Chinese teammates. I was aware that I had to try to get away from the front of the group in order to get a head start for the run. Despite several attempts to attack, it was not possible for me to get away as the course was very flat and a good headwind for half of the course. I completed the 40km in 1:00:56. I am very happy with my performance on the bike and to see that I am able to ride in the lead.

I came in first place in the second transition. The run took place on a course with two slight climbs and descents over 4 laps of 2.5km. I was quickly overtaken by my competitors. The first two laps were very tough, then I managed to let my legs go and focus on my technique. I finished in 14th place in 02:02:57. A nice top 15 for my first Asian Cup and a good margin of progress for the future.
